The Avant Garden is a multi-platform, roaming structure that will house, in various locations throughout Geelong and then across regional Victoria, cutting edge creative programming and exchange in a festival atmosphere.
The Avant Garden will capture a sweep of audiences—from tourists, travellers, locals to creatives from further afield—it is a space for imagination, education, exhibition and dialogue.
Exquisitely designed and intelligently programmed, the Avant Garden is an architectural projection of future potential, a space for talks, creative programs, environmental workshops and inclusive exhibitions.
Nationally and Internationally acclaimed invitees will speak, curate, exhibit and deliver a range of cross-disciplinary programs within this wondrous assembled structure as it moves between independent sites to within the grounds of its major partnering organisations.
THE AVANT GARDEN WILL BE DEVELOPED AND FABRICATED IN THREE STAGES TOWARDS ITS ESTABLISHMENT AS A TOURING FESTIVAL VENUE.
THE PROJECT WILL BE DEVELOPED AND DELIVERED BY CREATIVE GEELONG IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EXPERTS FROM DEAKIN UNIVERSITY’S WATERFRONT, WAURN PONDS AND WARRNAMBOOL CAMPUSES.
The Avant Garden is an independent creative site, fertile and experimental with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and best practice approaches to art, design, culture, environmental sustainability and healthy communities.
The exhibition showcases initial production designs where audiences are invited to interact with the Augmented Reality (AR) structure and see progress to date. Audiences can feedback their ideas and have input into the design of the Avant Garden.
Please note: This event runs from Tuesday 15 March – Friday 5 April 2022. For tickets outside of Geelong Design Week, please contact The National Wool Museum.
